On the publication of her report on young people in St Patrick’s Institution on 9 February, Ombudsman for Children, Emily Logan, has called on the next Government to commit to ceasing the practice of detaining children in prison as a matter of priority.

Mr Lars Lindström, born 1949, has been elected Parliamentary Ombudsman by the Swedish Parliament as from 1 June 2011.

The new Mayor of Budapest has “dismissed” homeless people from the prior underpasses in the Hungarian capital. Consequently, the Parliamentary Commissioner for Civil Rights examined the situation of homeless people in Budapest in the winter 2010/2011. 

On 17 November 2010, the NSW Ombudsman Bruce Barbour tabled a report to Parliament entitled 'Responding to the asbestos problem: The need for significant reform in NSW'. Following the release of the Ombudsman’s report, the government has committed to $5.6 million to complete the minimum clean up required for the Woods Reef site.
