Recently the seminar of Cooperation between Ombudsmen from Eastern Partnership Countries was held in the Office of the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Poland. Assisting the social reintegration of prisoners who have served their sentence requires an active attitude and expenditures both from the state and the society. Considering this, the state can not rely solely on the voluntary activity of civil organizations.

The City of Toronto’s Ombudsman has found problems with the process used to recruit and select board members for the City’s agencies, boards and commissions. “These agencies have a considerable impact on residents’ lives,” says Fiona Crean, “so Torontonians must be assured board members are selected in a fair and open process.”
