The English Summary of the Annual report 2012 by the Parliamentary Ombudsman of Finland has been published, compiling the most important observations concerning implementation of fundamental and human rights that were made in oversight of legality during the year.

The NSW Child Death Review Team’s Annual Report for 2012 was tabled in Parliament today by the Team’s Convenor, the NSW Ombudsman. The report examines the deaths of 493 children registered in NSW in 2012. ‘The rate of child deaths is the lowest since the Team began in 1996,’ said the Ombudsman, Bruce Barbour.

Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Dr. László Székely has nominated Dr. Erzsébet Szalayné Sándor, habilitated associate professor, former dean of the University of Pécs and director at the National University of Public Service, as his deputy in charge of the protection of the nationalities living in Hungary.

The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) has presented an opinion on the Framework Decision on Racism and Xenophobia, with special attention to the rights of victims of crime. This analysis was developed in response to the request of the Council of the European Union, Working Party on Fundamental Rights, Citizens’ Rights and Free Movement of Persons (FREMP).

The Supreme Court upheld the Ombudsman for Bermuda’s Certificate of Contempt of Court and held the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the City of Hamilton to be guilty of contempt.

The African Ombudsman Research Centre (AORC) will hold a summit on the framework and standards for the establishment of credible Ombudsman and Mediator offices in Africa. The AORC summit will precede the meeting of the Executive Committee of AOMA and take place from 10 to 11 December 2013 in Cape Town, South Africa.

Cayman Islands Complaints Commissioner Nicole Williams reports that, since 2010, a total of 1,144 businesses failed to pay into the private sector retirement system, thus owing a total of 13.7 million Cayman dollars to their current or former workers.
