Reporte Semanal de “Derechos Humanos en Perspectiva Internacional” (20 al 26 de marzo de 2021), elaborado por el Programa de Observación y Asistencia para el Fortalecimiento de las Defensorías del Pueblo, que forma parte de la Unidad de Política Institucional de la Defensoría del Pueblo de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires (Argentina).

Durante los dos últimos meses, entre el 15 de enero y el 15 de marzo, el tejido asociativo de la ciudad ha presentado ocho candidaturas para el cargo de síndic o síndica de greuges de Barcelona, personas escogidas por las entidades por su trayectoria personal y profesional y por su conocimiento de la ciudad. Las ocho candidaturas presentadas significan un importante incremento respecto al proceso de elección del 2016, cuando se presentaron cinco personas para el cargo.

La institución puso a disposición de personas sordas dos videos, que serán difundidos a través de sus canales digitales, con la intención de acercar un mecanismo para la recepción de denuncias a través de WhatsApp.

On March 29, the Ombudsman, Ms Winnie Chiu, announced the completion of a direct investigation into the Government’s handling of misconnection of private building sewers to the stormwater collection system (referred to as “sewer misconnection”) and has made eight recommendations for improvement having regard to the inadequacies found on the part of the Buildings Department (BD) and the Environmental Protection Department (EPD).

Issues relating to COVID featured in many complaints to the Ombudsman in 2020 from people in direct provision. Complaints about the movement of people from existing accommodation, the transfer of people to self-isolate in the Citywest complex, and allegations that staff within direct provision centres were not ensuring compliance with public health guidelines were among the complaints dealt with by the Ombudsman.

The People’s Advocate of Albania, Ms  Erinda Balanca, addressed the Minister of Health and Social Protection to recommend immediate measures with regard to revising the policy on financial impact for citizens infected with COVID-19.
