AZERBAIJAN | The next Presidential Order on Pardoning was executed

Upon investigating the appeals addressed by a number of convicts, human rights organizations and the Ombudsman 431 convicts including 35 women and 14 foreigners were pardoned by the Order, of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, dated March 16, 2019.

Moreover, the punishment of one of the three persons sentenced to life imprisonment was replaced with 25 years of imprisonment and the other two persons’ sentence with 20 years of imprisonment.

As a result of humanistic policy of the state, in the period of country’s independency 65 Pardoning Order were signed, 11 Amnesty Acts were adopted. 

According to the Constitution law each month the Ombudsman regularly addresses motions to the Pardoning Commission under the country President taking into consideration the applications of the convicts themselves and their family members.

In accordance with the last Pardoning Order, 54 convicts were pardoned by the Ombudsman’s appeals. During the period of Ombudsman’s activities, about 700 prisoners, including juveniles, women, elderly and other were released by pardoning order upon the Ombudsman’s motions.

The staff members of the Ombudsman Office actively participated in the execution of the pardoning process at penitentiary institutions of the Ministry of Justice Penitentiary Service.
