IOI | Start of IOI membership evaluation process

After a preparation and trial period, the IOI Board of Directors agreed to proceed with the membership progress evaluation and requested the Office of the Secretary General to present the final report at the 2020 World Conference. The actual evaluation is conducted on a rolling basis based on regions and seniority of IOI membership. The first 60 members have received the evaluation forms in our three official languages and can choose which one suits them best.

Pursuant to Article 21.4(n) of the IOI By-laws, a special report shall be submitted to the General Assembly of the IOI "evaluating what progress has been made among the Voting members in fulfilling the requirements of the International Ombudsman Standard as expressed in Article 2." These requirements represent the core values of our organisation: independence, objectivity and fairness.

Article 21.4(n) of the IOI By-laws is understood to evaluate the IOI Voting members in terms of their fulfilment of IOI’s principles and standards with a view to helping members to improve. Therefore I would like to emphasise that the evaluation is of a purely informative nature, it is non-punitive and not intended to be used as a basis to deprive any member of its membership or voting rights within the IOI.

Quite on the contrary: the aim of this evaluation process is to refresh our knowledge of the structure and functioning of IOI member institutions and to help our members strengthen their standing and visibility in the pursuit of striving for the highest possible standard. The results of this evaluation will also enable us to offer better support to our members, for example by feeding the information obtained back into new training projects specifically tailored to our members’ needs.

Your contribution is therefore important and highly appreciated!
