PAKISTAN/SINDH | Ombudsman orders health authorities to extend medical treatment to the patients of brain tumor and Hepatitis "B"

A complainant approached the Provincial Ombudsman of Sindh, Mr. Asad Ashraf Malik, with the complaint that his father suffered from brain tumor and his three brothers were patients of Hepatitis “B”. Due to his limited resources he could not afford the expensive treatment of the serious and fatal diseases. In this regard he contacted authorities in Health Department requesting them to provide treatment to his father and brothers as the government institutions provide the medical facilities for such diseases. Health Authorities however did not extend any medical facilities. Being aggrieved he sought intervention of the Ombudsman Institution for remedy of his grievance. Taking cognizance of the matter the Ombudsman directed the Health authorities for urgent enquiry and report which confirmed the allegations. The Ombudsman ordered for providing immediate medical treatment and supply required medicines to the patients on urgent basis.

In compliance of Ombudsman Orders, the authorities immediately extended treatment facilities and supply of medicine to the complainant’s father and his three brothers. Furthermore in pursuance of Ombudsman’s directive the health authorities issued instructions to concerned staff to ensure providing all possible facilities to the patients in future as well.
