Austrian Ombudsman hosts study exchange
As part of the Austrian Ombudsman Board’s international cooperation with ombudsman institutions from other countries, Ombudsman Christoph Luisser welcomed a delegation from the Polish Commissioner for Human Rights (the Polish Ombudsman), on 16 June 2026 at the Palais Rottal in Vienna, the headquarters of the Austrian Ombudsman Board. Following an introductory address and a brief presentation on the historical background of the AOB, the program for the visit was outlined.
In addition to the professional exchange in the fields of police detention, psychiatric institutions, youth welfare and correctional facilities, the three-day program included, amongst other things, visits to a Police Detention Centre and the Special Institution for Juvenile Detention. The focus of the on-site inspections was on the working methods involved in review activities within the framework of preventive human rights monitoring and ex-post administrative oversight.
