IOI | IOI-AORC Mediation Training for African Ombudsman & IOI Meeting of the African Region

Durban, South Africa March 12th -  15th 2019

From the 12th to the 15th of March, a Mediation Training for African Ombudsman was held in Durban, South Africa. The IOI in collaboration with the African Ombudsman Research Centre  (AORC) had organized a program, tailor-made for the needs of African Ombudsinstitutions, hosted by the Public Protector of South Africa.

On March 12th, the IOI Regional meeting marked the beginning of a busy and successful week, bringing together African Ombudsman from all over the region. The meeting was coordinated by Ms. Caroline Sokoni, Public Protector of Zambia and IOI Regional President of Africa.  Günther Kräuter, IOI Secretary General presented the IOI in detail. A special focus was given on IOI membership admission as well as the criteria which have to be fulfilled in order to be entitled to voting-membership.

The interactive mediation training, which began on March 13th was provided by Dr. McQuoid-Mason a leading Africa-centric mediation trainer and scholar based at UKZN’s School of Law, who is an expert in his field.

The fruitful cooperation between IOI, AOMA, AORC, and the University of KwaZulu-Natal has to be positively mentioned since the mediation training would not have been possible without mutual support on so many levels.
