Austria | Austrian Ombudsman and IOI Secretary General meet GIO Iran

The President of the General Inspection Organization (GIO) Iran, H.E. Justice Naser Seraji, took the opportunity of his participation at the 10th Annual Conference of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA), which took place in Vienna (Austria), from 22 – 24 January 2019, to meet with Ombudsman Peter Fichtenbauer, Chairperson of the Austrian Ombudsman Board (AOB), and IOI Secretary General Günther Kräuter.

During the meeting at the Austrian Ombudsman Board, Ombudsman Fichtenbauer was joined by Ambassador Johanns Peterlik, Secretary-General with the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Dr. Fichtenbauer and Ambassador Peterlik both emphasized the good and long-standing relations between Austria and Iran, which go back 160 years and brought about several fruitful cooperations, especially in the cultural and acadmic sectors.

H.E. Justice Seraji and Ombudsman Fichtenbauer agreed that the active dialogue and exchange of experiences and best practices with international colleagues is essential to strengthen Ombudsman institutions in their everyday work. As a consequence, they expressed their mutual wish to further pursue and extend the already good working relations between the two offices in the future.

The meeting between GIO President Seraji and IOI Secretary General Kräuter put a focus on the growing partnership of the IOI with Ombudsman associations around the world.

Secretary General Kräuter therefore took the opportunity of his talks with H.E. Justice Seraji to express the IOI’s wish and hope that the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the IOI and the AOA will be possible in the near future and to request Justice Seraji’s support in this matter.

The General Inspection Organization (GIO) was one of the founders of the Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA) and now is a member of the Board of Director and the Treasury of that Association.

Furthermore, the GIO is the originator and founder of the Academy of Asian Ombudsman Association. In its attempt and interest to strengthen cooperation with Ombudsman offices around the world, the GIO has also signed a wide range of Memoranda of Understanding with pioneer Ombudsman institutions and anti-corruption organizations in Denmark, Germany, Russia, China, Japan, Turkey etc.
