PDHJ hosted 2nd Technical Working Group of the South East Asian NHRIs Forum
The office of the Provedor for Human Rights and Justice of Timor-Leste hosted the 2nd Techincal Working Group Meeting of the South East Asia National Human Right Institutions Forum (SEANF) from 23 - 25 July 2019. SEANF is a Forum of National Human Rights Institutions from Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Timor-Leste.

Ombudsman South Australia declares the use of „spit hoods“ in juvenile detention centers unlawful
The application of ‘spit hoods’ to children and young people accommodated in South Australia’s youth detention centre is contrary to the Charter of Rights for youth detainees and contrary to law, South Australian Ombudsman Wayne Lines has determined. Tabling his investigation report in South Australian Parliament on 24 September 2019, Mr Lines called on the South Australian government to ban the use of spit hoods within the Adelaide Youth Training Centre within 12 months.

Complaints to the Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman rise for third successive year
A report released today has revealed that complaints to the Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman increased by 15% in the last year. During 2018-19 the Office received 762 new complaints. This is the third successive year in which complaints to the Ombudsman have increased.

Discussing EU’s role towards the Sustainable Development Goals
The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) took part in the conference ‘SDGs, Climate and the Future of Europe’ on 31 May in Milan, organised by the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development. The meeting discussed the key role that the EU can play towards advancing the 2030 agenda and will feed into a European Commission reflection paper on the subject.

Strengthening partnerships: PCC engages Anambra state Ministry of Environment in addressing environmental challenges
On 6 November 2023, the Honourable Federal Commissioner Public Complaints Commission, Anambra State, Hon. Lolo Emelda Nwajiofor-Okoli, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Dr Felix Odumegwu, at the Ministry of Environment, State Secretariat complex, Awka. Hon. Nwajiofor-Okoli engaged the Commissioner for Environment on the crucial role of the Public Complaints Commission as a watchdog for addressing administrative grievances affecting Anambrarians.
