The University of Applied Sciences Vienna (FH Campus Wien) is conducting a study on the role of Ombudsman institutions in the context of the growing digitalization of public services worldwide. IOI member institutions are strongly encouraged to fill in a short online survey and/or to participate in a short interview with the researcher, Dr. Julia Dahlvik, to help her generate data for her research project, whose outcome will be of great benefit to Ombudsman institutions worldwide.

2021-12-23Proportion of Indigenous Women in Federal Custody Nears 50%: Correctional Investigator Issues Statement
Ottawa, December 17, 2021 – Today, the Correctional Investigator, Dr. Ivan Zinger, released new data that shows that the proportion of incarcerated Indigenous women has continued to increase unabated, and is nearing 50% of all federally-sentenced women. On January 21, 2020, the Office of the Correctional Investigator reported that the proportion of Indigenous men and women in federal custody had reached a new historic high, surpassing 30% of the overall incarcerated population. The combined men and women Indigenous proportion in federal corrections is now 32%, and climbing.

Guided by the objective to provide Ombudsman institutions worldwide with best practice papers on Ombudsman-related topics, the IOI Board of Directors endorsed the initiative to develop an IOI policy paper on developing and reforming Ombudsman schemes and invites input and feedback from fellow Ombudsmen, partner organisations and the academia.
