2024-10-17South Australian Ombudsman's 2023-24 Annual Report tabled in parliament
The South Australian Ombudsman’s 2023-24 Annual Report was tabled in parliament on Tuesday 15 October 2024. The Ombudsman, Ms Emily Strickland, reported a five per cent increase in the number of complaints received – rising to just over 4600. More than 180 complaints were resolved by agreement including through the use of statutory conciliation powers.

A village resident was concerned about the condition of the trees on the government land nearby, particularly a large tree adjacent to his house, which had grown taller and taller with its trunk leaning more significantly. The Ombudsman’s Office sympathised with his long-standing concern, given that tree collapse had caused casualties time and time again in the past.

En consonancia con el objetivo del Instituto Internacional del Ombudsman (IIO) de promover el intercambio de información y ayudar a sus miembros a desarrollar capacidades, la Comisión de Derechos Humanos de la Ciudad de México desarrolló, entre mayo de 2023 y mayo de 2024, el proyecto “Construcción de una agenda común y acciones estratégicas en materia de derechos humanos para América Latina y el Caribe desde los Organismos No Jurisdiccionales en el contexto post COVID-19”. El proyecto fue financiado por el programa de subvenciones regionales del IIO.

2026-02-05Ombudsman announces results of direct investigation operation into effectiveness of administrative support provided for complaint handling by the Secretariat of the Medical Council
On 5 February 2026, the Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, announced the completion of a direct investigation operation into the effectiveness of administrative support provided for complaint handling by the Secretariat of the Medical Council of Hong Kong under the Department of Health, and the DH’s regulatory role. The Office of the Ombudsman made 21 improvement recommendations to the authorities.

On 7 November 2025, the convener of the Control Yuan’s Domestic and Ethnic Committee, Ombudsman Tsai Chung-yi, accompanied by 14 committee members, visited the Ocean Conservation Administration under the Ocean Affairs Council for an inspection. The delegation conducted field visits to member companies of the Marine Debris Recycling Coalition and the Central Taiwan Marine Conservation Education Center, followed by operational briefings and a comprehensive discussion session with the OAC and OCA.

Alrededor de 1500 personas sensibilizadas de las cuales 781 son estudiantes, 747 docentes y administrativos forman parte de una jornada de concienciación de la Defensoría del Pueblo sobre las leyes 285 de 2023 que crea el Sistema de Garantías y Protección Integral de los Derechos de la Niñez y la Adolescencia, al igual que la Ley 289 de marzo de 2024, la cual busca establecer los mecanismos para diagnosticar, prevenir, evitar y erradicar cualquier forma de maltrato psicológico, verbal o físico producido entre estudiantes.

2024-10-10CY issues correction to Ministry of Labor and New Taipei City Government on forced unpaid leave to foreign fishermen
An investigation conducted by Control Yuan has found that after the end of Taiwan’s neritic squid fishing season in September 2023, employers and agents flexibly adjusted fishing manpower using “consensual termination of contract” to avoid requirements of the Labor Standards Act. As a result, 64 foreign fishermen were forced to take unpaid leave, denied the three-year guarantee of work in their contracts, and not given severance pay.
