Le Médiateur du Royaume du Maroc, Monsieur Mohamed BENALILOU, a été élu jeudi 17 octobre 2024, à Québec, au Canada, premier vice-président de l'Association des médiateurs et ombudsmans de la Francophonie, représentant le groupe africain, aux côtés du Médiateur de la Wallonie et de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, de l'Ombudsman de la province du Nouveau-Brunswick au Canada, du Défenseur des droits français et du Médiateur de la République du Bénin, et a ce titre, il a également été élu président du "Comité d'engagement" de ladite association.

2024-10-24Appointment of Acting Ombudsman and Ombudsman
The Chief Ombudsman announces that the Ombudsman Appointments Committee (OAC) had, in accordance with the requirements under Section 217(1) and (2) of the Constitution and Sections 4(3) and 11(a) of the Organic Law on the Ombudsman Commission, appointed Tabitha Suwae as an Ombudsman and Kevin Kepore as Acting Ombudsman. Mr. Kepore’s term as Accounting Ombudsman expired on 9 October 2024. The position of Ombudsman Accounting will be advertised publicly as is the current practice to give an opportunity for potential candidates to apply, including the Ombudsman.

La institución del Síndic de Greuges ha tenido conocimiento de anomalías en las fechas de cotización de la vida laboral de empleados públicos de la Generalitat. A partir del análisis de las quejas recibidas, la institución ha constatado un decalaje temporal entre la fecha de inicio de la prestación de servicios en la Administración de la Generalitat y la fecha de alta en la Tesorería General de la Seguridad Social. La demora en el alta tiene efectos en las prestaciones del sistema, dado que reduce el período de cotización para la jubilación.

The event was held on October 10th and included an opening speech by the Angolan Ombudsman, the representative of the National Assembly, the interim UN representative in Angola, the PNUD representative in Angola, followed by presentations of virtual speeches by Her Excellency the President of the International Ombudsman Institute, Dra. Nashieli Ramírez Hernández, the Executive Director of the International Ombudsman Association, Dra. Ellen Miller, the Secretary of the African Ombudsman and Mediators Association (AOMA), Dra Caroline Sokoni, and other representatives of Angolan state bodies.

The South Australian Ombudsman’s 2023-24 Annual Report was tabled in parliament on Tuesday 15 October 2024. The Ombudsman, Ms Emily Strickland, reported a five per cent increase in the number of complaints received – rising to just over 4600. More than 180 complaints were resolved by agreement including through the use of statutory conciliation powers.

A village resident was concerned about the condition of the trees on the government land nearby, particularly a large tree adjacent to his house, which had grown taller and taller with its trunk leaning more significantly. The Ombudsman’s Office sympathised with his long-standing concern, given that tree collapse had caused casualties time and time again in the past.

On 30 September 2024, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, at Brdo pri Kranju hosted the fourth President’s Forum, in the forefront of which was the right to healthy a living environment. During the debate, Deputy Ombudsman, Dr Dijana Možina Zupanc, emphasised that violations of human rights in this field are ongoing, since every year the institution receives almost 200 complaints, of which approximately one fifth is valid.

On September 27, the Palácio de Vilalva in Lisbon hosted the conference “Five Decades of Freedom and Justice: Celebrating 50 Years of the Ombudsman and April 25”. The event, organized by the Ombudsman’s Office, marked the fiftieth anniversary of the creation of this institution in Portugal.

Canada’s Taxpayers’ Ombudsperson, Mr. François Boileau, released his annual report, Fair Access to Service, which was tabled on 8 October 2024 in the House of Commons by Ms. Iqra Khalid, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Revenue. The report provides an overview of the activities of the Office of the Taxpayers’ Ombudsperson between April 1, 2023, and March 31, 2024.
