In the context of its work in the area of migration, asylum and borders, FRA is today publishing a new paper, Alternatives to detention for asylum seekers and people in return procedures. The paper seeks to provide guidance to policy makers and practitioners on the use of measures for asylum seekers and people in return procedures that do not unnecessarily deprive them of their right to liberty.

Manitoba Ombudsman releases revised privacy impact assessment tool
Manitoba Ombudsman has developed a user friendly Privacy Impact Assessment Tool that encourages organizations to think about privacy when evaluating an existing or proposed program, service or activity. This Privacy Impact Assessment Tool replaces the Compliance Review Tool for Manitoba’s Information Privacy Laws, developed by Manitoba Ombudsman in 2003.

La Defensoría del Pueblo advierte sobre irregularidades con empresa de telefonía celular
La Defensoría del Pueblo de la provincia de Santa Fe recibió quejas de usuarios de la empresa de telefonía Movistar, que a días de haber adquirido un equipo de la marca Samsung sufrieron desperfectos técnicos y no reciben respuestas satisfactorias por parte del servicio oficial de la firma más de 45 después de haber iniciado el trámite. La institución realizó también gestiones oficiosas ante estos casos y tampoco recibió contestación alguna.

OHCHR Investigation contributes to reconciliation and justice development in Sri Lanka
The Investigation Report issued by the Office of the United Nation’s High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) dated 16th September 2015, is the most comprehensive report on human rights issued by any international or national agency to date. It is comprehensive and balanced. If implemented it could lead to considerable positive developments in Sri Lanka. This 261 page report sums up some of the most serious problems relating to the rule of law and the administration of justice that have arisen over a considerable period of time.

"People first" - Visegrád Group's Ombudsmen
The Four Visegrád Ombudsmen, including the Public Defender of Rights of the Czech Republic, the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary, the Public Defender of Rights of the Slovak Republic and the Deputy Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Poland, held a meeting in Visegrád, Hungary, from 30 September to 02 October, 2015. During this event, the Ombudsmen accepted a joint statement in relation to the current refugee and migration crisis affected this European region.

La Defensoría del Pueblo de la provincia de Santa Fe alerta a los ciudadanos sobre intimaciones de cobranza de deudas truchas enviadas por firmas de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires que no especifican el motivo del pasivo y que configuran en muchísimos casos una estafa. Es por ello que recomienda a quienes reciban estas notificaciones dirigirse a la institución antes de realizar cualquier otra gestión.
