2011-09-02New South Wales Ombudsman reports on the need of a boarding house reform
On 16 August 2011, the NSW Ombudsman tabled a special report to Parliament titled More than board and lodging: the need for boarding house reform. The report draws on extensive work by the Ombudsman´s office since 2002, which has identified serious concerns about the safety, health, welfare and rights of the residents of licensed boarding houses, and the adequacy of the system that is meant to protect them.

2011-08-30I.O.I. prepares annual officer elections
According to Article 21 (2) of the I.O.I. By-laws “The officers of the Institute, except the Secretary General, shall be elected at the annual meeting of the Board from amongst the Directors”. As a consequence officer elections will be held during the Livingstone Board Meeting to appoint the President, Vice-President and Treasurer of the Institute.

The Public Defender of Rights (Ombudsman), as the Czech equality body, responses for researching in the area of discrimination and his first research was focused on employment (job offering). Ombudsman analyzed about 12,000 job advertising released on one of the portals in April and found out that every 6th advertisement was discriminatory.

The Ombudsman recently recommended that offences against the person and discriminatory acts where homophobia is the main motivation be criminalised. He underscores that in most EU Member States' legislations, homophobia is an aggravating circumstance or a constituent element of the offence.
