Chief Ombudsman issues another stinging criticism of Oranga Tamariki over failure to investigate child assault and violence claims
New Zealand Chief Ombudsman Peter Boshier has again issued a stinging criticism of Oranga Tamariki this time over failing to properly investigate reports of assaults and violence against pre-school and primary-aged children. Peter Boshier began an investigation after receiving a complaint from a family member of the children about the way Oranga Tamariki responded to reports of concern.

On 21 October 2024, the Human Rights Ombudsman Peter Svetina and Dr. Simona Drenik Bavdek, assistant head of the Center for Human Rights, met with representatives of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI), who were visiting Slovenia that week to prepare the sixth report on the state of human rights in the country.

The People’s Advocate Institution of Albania has published a special report on "Monitoring the Activity of the Justice Appointments Council” during the year 2019. The Justice Appointments Council (JAC) has a key role in the framework of the establishment of new institutions of justice reform and during the last two years it has been a subject of disagreements between various institutions engaged in the implementation of this reform. The published report highlights problems identified by the People’s Advocate Institution in its role as an observer of JAC meetings during 2019.

2019 Annual Report of the Ombudsman of the Republic of North Macedonia
The report covers all segments of life that directly or indirectly affect the rights of citizens, and it is also a reflection of their perception of how the administration functioned in the previous year through the number of submitted complaints. There is no better benchmark for the (non) functioning of the institutions than the complaints of the citizens who are trying every day to exercise their rights as guaranteed by the Constitution and the law.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Law on the Prohibition of Discrimination in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Although the principle of equality and non-discrimination is an integral part of all treaties and human rights declarations, as well as the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the significance of the Law on the Prohibition of Discrimination is immeasurable.

Naser Ziberi appointed as the new Ombudsman
On 25 January 2021, the Macedonian Assembly elected Mr. Naser Ziberi as the new Ombudsman of North Macedonia for an eight-year mandate. In his brief introductory speech, Mr. Ziberi stressed that he is honored and privileged to serve as an Ombudsman and pledged to carry ahead the work of his predecessors Ixhet Memeti.
