In 2021, as a result of persistent media reports, alleging violations of basic human rights and non-observance of prison regulations within the Corradino Correctional Facility, and after NGO “Moviment Graffitti” wrote to the Ombudsman highlighting these concerns, the Ombudsman Mr Anthony Mifsud decided to conduct this investigation in accordance with sub-article (2) of Article 13 of the Ombudsman Act (Cap. 385).

Carmit Fenton Adv. is the new Head of the Office of the Ombudsman at the State Comptroller and Ombudsman Office of Israel
On 2 February 2025, Ms. Carmit Fenton, Adv. entered into her seven-year term of office as Head of the Ombudsman Office. Ms. Fenton was appointed as Head of the Ombudsman Office by the State Audit Affairs Committee of the Knesset (Israeli parliament), upon the recommendation of the State Comptroller and Ombudsman, Mr. Matanyahu Englman.

Defensoría del Pueblo: debe garantizarse el acceso al SIS y atención médica a migrantes en situación de vulnerabilidad
La Defensoría del Pueblo reafirmó su compromiso con la protección de los derechos fundamentales de las personas migrantes, asegurando el acceso de este sector de la población a atención médica gratuita a través del Seguro Integral de Salud. Ello fue posible luego de dos casos ocurridos en Ica y Tarapoto, en los que el punto en común fue que las personas requerían atención médica especializada y no contaban con los recursos ni la documentación necesaria para acceder a estos servicios.

CAV: 30 años de promoción de derechos y asistencia a víctimas
Este 13 de octubre, el Centro de Asistencia a la Víctima y al Testigo del Delito cumple 3 décadas de vida. A lo largo de estos años el CAV, creado por ley provincial Nº 11202, se ha consolidado como una institución que brinda un conjunto de respuestas diferenciadas del resto de las organizaciones estatales. Su estructura, modo de funcionamiento y la interacción tanto con la gestión pública como con la administración de justicia, ha permitido un abordaje integral y una lectura compleja de las problemáticas con las que nos enfrentamos a diario.

Comisión de Derechos Humanos de la Ciudad de México finaliza proyecto de fortalecimiento regional
En consonancia con el objetivo del Instituto Internacional del Ombudsman (IIO) de promover el intercambio de información y ayudar a sus miembros a desarrollar capacidades, la Comisión de Derechos Humanos de la Ciudad de México desarrolló, entre mayo de 2023 y mayo de 2024, el proyecto “Construcción de una agenda común y acciones estratégicas en materia de derechos humanos para América Latina y el Caribe desde los Organismos No Jurisdiccionales en el contexto post COVID-19”. El proyecto fue financiado por el programa de subvenciones regionales del IIO.

Recomendación de la PPN sobre estándares a considerar en la construcción de nuevos espacios de detención en Policía de Ciudad
La Procuración Penitenciaria ha estado monitoreando la situación de las personas detenidas en comisarías de la CABA, donde a partir del 2020, ha habido un incremento notable en el número de alojados en estas dependencias transitorias de la Policía de la Ciudad. Esto se debe a las restricciones del SPF en la admisión de detenidos y a la falta de capacidad disponible. Esta situación ha generado un contexto crítico en términos de derechos humanos, lo que evidencia la necesidad urgente de una respuesta institucional efectiva por parte del Gobierno de la ciudad.

En cumplimiento a uno de los puntos de la Recomendación 11/2018 emitida por la Comisión de Derechos Humanos de la Ciudad de México, la Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana, la Fiscalía General de Justicia y el Instituto de Servicios Periciales y Ciencias Forenses, ofrecieron una disculpa pública y reconocimiento de responsabilidad en honra y memoria de Josafat Hasam López Balderas. Este acto público solemne cobrará sentido, sólo si se adoptan medidas con vocación transformadora y correctiva, en busca de que casos como éste no sucedan más.

10 Students from Sukkur IBA University Selected as Ambassadors for Ombudsman Sindh
Ten students from Sukkur IBA University have been selected as Ambassadors for Ombudsman Sindh as part of the 4th Round of the Ambassador Program. Earlier, 10 students each from Hamdard University, Sindh Madressatul Islam University and Salim Habib University were selected. The selected students aim to foster civic responsibility, promoting accountability and support the Ombudsman’s mission.
