Ombudsman announces launching of his new website
The Ombudsman of Gibraltar, Mario M Hook recently announced the launching of his new website: www.ombudsman.org.gi. It will provide better functionality and interaction to its users and importantly allows complaints to be submitted electronically through an online complaint form.

I.O.I. archives grow
The I.O.I. strives to encourage and support research and study into the institution of the ombudsman as well as to collect, store and disseminate research data. Since 2010 the I.O.I. the General Secretariat in Vienna hosts the Institute's archives.

Continuous commitment and outstanding efforts by members of the ombudsman community have shaped the I.O.I. and made it the most important organisation for the cooperation of more than 135 independent public service ombudsman institutions. The 12th regional Conference of the Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA) will be held in Japan from 5th to 8th December 2011. An official website has been launched in order to provide information about the detailed pogramme.

I.O.I. welcomes Sri Lanka back as member
The International Ombudsman Institute welcomes Sri Lanka’s Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration back as an I.O.I. member. The I.O.I. Board of Directors carefully assessed the request submitted by Sri Lanka in May and decided to give way to the demand welcoming the office's incumbent L.A.Tissa Ekanayake back in the I.O.I. community.

Discrimination in job advertisements
The Public Defender of Rights (Ombudsman), as the Czech equality body, responses for researching in the area of discrimination and his first research was focused on employment (job offering). Ombudsman analyzed about 12,000 job advertising released on one of the portals in April and found out that every 6th advertisement was discriminatory.

Ombudsman recommends criminalisation of homophobic offences
The Ombudsman recently recommended that offences against the person and discriminatory acts where homophobia is the main motivation be criminalised. He underscores that in most EU Member States' legislations, homophobia is an aggravating circumstance or a constituent element of the offence.

ACRC wins UN award for innovative communication with citizens
The Korean I.O.I. member ACRC recently received an UN award for "Advancing Knowledge Management in Government" for its "e-People" tool. This integrated online portal deals with civil complaints and proposals regarding central and local governments and public organizations. The average number of daily visitors is about 100,000.

Public Defender publishes first report on NPM activities
Enthrusted with the National Preventive Mechanism against Torture (NPM), the Spanisch national Ombudsman Institution – the Public Defender – has conducted 231 inspection visits of places of deprivation of liberty during its first working year. The Office of the Public Defender headed by María Luisa Cava de Llano has accordingly published a first MNP Report.

Recientemente la oficina del Defensor del Pueblo, que dirige María Luisa Cava de Llano, ha hecho público el primer informe del Mecanismo Nacional de Prevención de la Tortura (MNP).

Programa SYT en Viena – El I.I.O. financió nueve becas
La Secretaría General del I.I.O., con sede en Viena, organizó por segunda vez el curso de formación Sharpening Your Teeth (Afilando los dientes) para el personal de las instituciones de ombudsman. Al igual que el año pasado el curso estuvo dirigido por el Ombudsman de Ontario, André Marin y su adjunta Barbara Finlay.
