Canada’s Veterans Ombudsman Guy Parent released today Transitioning Successfully: A Qualitative Study. The aim of the study was to better understand what contributes to a successful transition from military to civilian life for medically released Canadian Veterans, by interviewing Veterans who feel that they transitioned successfully, learning about their lived experience, and determining the factors, programs and services that help.

Guy Parent, l’ombudsman des vétérans du Canada, a publié aujourd’hui le document intitulé Faire une transition réussie : une étude qualitative. L’étude visait à mieux comprendre ce qui contribue à une transition réussie de la vie militaire à la vie civile pour les vétérans canadiens libérés pour des raisons médicales en interrogeant des vétérans qui considèrent avoir fait une transition réussie, en apprenant le genre d’expérience qu’ils ont vécue et en déterminant les facteurs, les programmes et les services qui les ont aidés.

2017-10-12Ombudsman publishes results of investigation on unjust and oppressive separation of prisoner
During an investigation concerning the separation of a prisoner from the general population for 66 days, the Ombudsman South Australia found that the Department of Correctional Services had, first, failed to document confidential intelligence and an operational risk assessment to justify its decision. Second, the Department's direction that a prisoner be kept separately and apart from other prisoners was unjust and oppressive. The Ombudsman is concerned that the Department has indicated that it may not implement some of his recommendations.

The care of a North Wales patient has been branded ‘substandard’ by the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales following his untimely death at Ysbyty Gwynedd. Commenting on the report, Ombudsman Nick Bennett finds it extremely concerning that the Health Board refuses to admit that had they approached the patient’s care differently, this death could have been prevented.
