Whistleblowing on the rise, growing number of complaints
The last week of June marks World Whistleblower Day and Chief Ombudsman Peter Boshier says he is very heartened to know that people seem to feel more comfortable about reporting issues. In 2022/2023 the Chief Ombudsman received 128 protected disclosures and enquiries, which was an 80% increase from the previous year (with 71 received in 2021/22).

Celebrating 15 Years of Fairness, Looking Forward
Toronto’s Ombudsman says 2024 marks 15 years of success for his office in solving problems with City services for the people of Toronto. In his annual report released on 21 June 2024, Ombudsman Kwame Addo notes that to date, the office has handled more than 31,000 individual complaints from members of the public.

On July 13, 2021, the Commissioner for Administration and the Protection of Human Rights, in the framework of its competences as an Equality Body, issued a Statement regarding the phenomenon of speech that promotes/incites racism and xenophobia and the specific implications that such speech has when it is expressed online through the internet.
