    Report on deaths of people with disabilities living in care

    The NSW Ombudsman is required to review the deaths of children and adults who lived in the care of disability services and licensed boarding houses. NSW Ombudsman Bruce Barbour, tabled a report to Parliament today on the deaths in 2010 and 2011 of 220 people with disabilities who lived in care.

    Within Article 27 of the Convention (work and employment), we conducted a survey focusing on mapping the conditions of and impediments to employment of people with disabilities in the public sector. Indeed, we assume that public administration should lead by example in creating appropriate working conditions for employees with disabilities.

    On 25 April 2013, Augustinas Normantas was appointed to the position of the head of the Seimas Ombudsmen‘s Office of the Republic of Lithuania. On the same day, Raimondas Šukys swore an oath in the Parliament and was appointed as Seimas Ombudsman.

    Since the beginning of Coronavirus lockdowns, police, women shelters and NGOs have reported a surge in domestic violence, especially violence targeting women. The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) and the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) call on the EU and the Member States to use the coronavirus pandemic as an opportunity to step up their efforts to effectively protect women's rights.

    Public Defender positively evaluates situation at checkpoints

    Representatives of the Public Defender’s office visited the checkpoints set up for quarantine purposes in Marneuli, Rustavi and Mtskheta, where servicemen of the Defense Forces are deployed together with representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to evaluate the working conditions, health care procedures and monitored the procedures carried out by the military towards citizens at the checkpoints.
