A new edition of the book “Online Dispute Resolution: Theory and Practice: A Treatise on Technology and Dispute Resolution” is in preparation. The chapter on ODR and Ombudsmanship will be updated and will investigate the uptake (or not) of technology assisted Ombudsman work. You are kindly asked to contribute to the survey.

The Québec Ombudsman recently released a special report entitled Services Provided to Young People and Adults with a Pervasive Developmental Disorder: From Government Commitment to Cold Hard Facts. The report, submitted to the National Assembly, follows a first report released in October 2009 on services for children aged 0 to 7 years with pervasive developmental disorders (PDDs).

On 17th May 2012, the Portuguese Ombudsman, Alfredo José de Sousa, delivered to the President of the Parliament his Annual Report of Activities concerning the year of 2011. The Ombudsman received 7753 complaints, due to the current economic and financial context one out of five cases opened in 2011 concerned social rights.

His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands spoke with the ombudsmen of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on Wednesday afternoon, 30 October. It was the first time that the ombudsmen had a joint conversation with the King. The interview was part of King Willem-Alexander's visit to the National Ombudsman.

2012-05-17Successful mid-term Board meeting in Hong Kong
A successful mid-term meeting of the I.O.I. Board of Directors took place from 7 to 8 May 2012 and was generously hosted by IOI Treasurer and Hong Kong Ombudsman Alan N. Lai. Directors from all six world regions of the IOI were able to attend this most important meeting mainly focusing on the establishment of a final draft of the new by-laws.

2012-05-15First Staff Exchange Program with Asian-Pacific Counterparts
The 2012 Staff Exchange Program between the Control Yuan and Asian-Pacific Ombudsman and Human Rights Offices was held from May 7 to May 9. The program helped participants to deepen mutual understanding and friendship. Six participants from the following six countries took part: Indonesia, Malaysia, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Philippines and Thailand.
