IOI President Chris Field PSM undertook an official visit to Slovenia following the very gracious invitation of his outstanding colleague, Human Rights Ombudsman, Peter Svetina. Alongside bilateral exchanges and a number of meetings with the most senior members of Government, President Field was given the great honour of visiting many of the beautiful regions of Slovenia.

Two new commissioners take office at the People’s Advocate institution
Two new Commissioners of the People's Advocate have been elected by the Albanian Parliament and have already started their duties at the largest human rights institution of the country. Ms Olta Aliaj is the Commissioner of the Section for the Protection and Promotion of Children's Rights. Mr Ahmet Prençi is the Commissioner of the NPM. Both Ms Aliaj and Mr Prençi come from prominent careers in the field of justice and human rights in Albanian institutions.

Complaints handling principles approved by the Assembly
On 19 January 2022, the Northern Ireland Assembly approved the complaints handling Statement of Principles from the Northern Ireland Public Servises Ombudsman (NIPSO). The six principles set out the basic approach public bodies should take when dealing with complaints from members of the public.

First wave of COVID-19 in CHSLDs — Identify the causes of the crisis, act, remember
Québec Ombudsperson Marie Rinfret released her findings on how the COVID-19 crisis in residential and long-term care centres (CHSLDs) was handled during the first wave of the pandemic on November 23, 2021. In her special report tabled in the National Assembly, she made 27 recommendations to the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux and to the Minister aimed at implementing far-reaching measures to act on the causes of the crisis and to improve residents’ living conditions.
