2026-04-30National Ombudsman convenes regional “Poldershop” on EU Migration Pact in Tallinn
In early April, the IOI European Regional President, Reinier van Zutphen, brought together staff from counterparts from Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland to discuss the implications of the EU’s Migration Pact, set to enter into force in June 2026. This meeting was organised in line with the meeting on the Migration Pact that took place in Brussels at the office of the Federal Ombudsman of Belgium. That session focused more on the migration movement in the Mediterranean region and in Estonia participants focused more on the Northern European experience.

The Ombudsman of Aruba, Ms. Jurima Bryson LL.M. has published the report “Het Luisterend Oog, In kader brengen van instellingen” (Dutch for “The Listening Eye”) on March 9th, 2026. In this report 564 institutions on Aruba, that fall under the National Ombudsman Ordinance, have been identified.

On 24 March 2026, Ontario Ombudsman Paul Dubé published a special report summarizing his 10 years in office, a period of historic growth in public sector oversight. The departing Ombudsman, whose term ends March 31, highlights improvements in public services, but also calls attention to persistent issues, like the urgent ongoing “crisis” in the province’s overcrowded jails.

The Control Yuan convened its 2025 Annual Review Meeting on 2 February 2026, chaired by Acting President Lee Hung-chun. As the final annual review of the Sixth Term of CY Members, Acting President Lee expressed his sincere gratitude to all Members and staff for their years of dedication, urging them to remain steadfast in the exercise of their oversight functions in order to fulfill the institution’s constitutional mandate and meet public expectations.

Korea’s anti-corruption policies, including the Public Institution Comprehensive Integrity Assessment, were introduced to 189 State Parties during the United Nations Convention against Corruption meeting held in Vienna, from June 12 to 16, 2023. The ACRC shared Korea’s anti-corruption policies and engaged in discussions on internationally pending issues relating to anti-corruption at the 14th UNCAC Implementation Review Group and the 14th Working Group on Prevention meeting.

The reason for this is dozens of complaints from parents about the proposed amendments to the Ordinance on the Admission of Children to Municipal Nurseries and Kindergartens. The Ombudsman expresses concern about the repeal of the additional point under General Criterion 5 for children who have attended a municipal stand-alone nursery or a private nursery registered with the Sofia Regional Health Inspectorate.
