Ombudsman Montreal files Annual Report 2018 with Montreal City Council
The Ombudsman of Montréal (OdM), Johanne Savard, filed the 15th Annual Report (2018) of their institution. This report includes statistical and general information on the activities of the Ombudsman, examples of files that were handled as well as information on the role and mandate of the office of the Ombudsman. Part 4 of the report is particularly interesting: it provides an overview of all the 2018 OdM interventions for each entity over which the Ombudsman has jurisdiction.

La Defensoría del Pueblo de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires observó las movilizaciones a favor y en contra del aborto
El operativo estuvo a cargo de 400 profesionales encabezados por el Defensor del Pueblo Alejandro Amor, que permanecieron en la Plaza del Congreso y sus alrededores desde las 11 de la mañana de día miércoles 13 de junio hasta las 8 de la mañana siguiente mientras la Cámara de Diputados de la Nación debatía el proyecto de ley de interrupción voluntaria del embarazo. El propósito fue verificar el dispositivo de seguridad desplegado por el Gobierno porteño y supervisar el desarrollo de las marchas.

Control Yuan Annual Report 2018

Nova Scotia Appeal Court upholds power of ombudsman's office
Nova Scotia's highest court has reaffirmed the power of the provincial ombudsman's office to investigate allegations against government departments and agencies. In a decision, the Appeal Court ruled the Ombudsman's office has the authority to receive unredacted records from the Department of Health and Wellness, after the province had objected to releasing the documents in full.

On April 5th, a public hearing on the “National Human Rights agenda: UN Universal Periodic Review” was held in the National Assembly of Armenia with the participation of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia and civil society organizations, representatives of public authorities, media, diplomatic missions and international organizations.

Council of Europe publishes guidelines on safeguarding privacy in the media
The recently published Guidelines on safeguarding privacy in the media by the Council of Europe aim to be an instrument of practical advice to media professionals and refers to relevant case-law of the European Court of Human Rights. The second part of the publication concerns the application of data protection principles in the context of journalism.

Ombudsman completes compensation proceedings for victims of municipal road collapse
The Portuguese Ombudsman, Maria Lúcia Amaral, concluded the proceedings for compensation to the relatives and heirs of the five mortal victims of the collapse of the Municipal Road 255, which took place on November 19, 2018, in the borough of Borba, Portugal.

Ombudsman encourages youth for protection of the environment
Azerbaijan Child and Peace Network (ACYPN) and the Resource Center of the Ombudsman on Child Rights held an event on the occasion of 5 June- World Environment Day as previous years. The aim of the event was to educate children in the spirit love to the environment, efficient use of our natural resources, shaping their ecological consciousness, also preservation of biological diversity.
