The Parliamentary Ombudsman, Mr Anthony C. Mifsud, presented the Case Notes 2018 to the President of the House of Representatives, the Hon. Anglu Farrugia. This year’s edition, as usual, tries to report cases that are of general interest and represent a good cross-section of the complaints investigated by the Ombudsman and the Commissioners.

La Defensoría del Pueblo abrirá una queja contra el Sistema Penitenciario después de que la Oficina de Protección de los Derechos Humanos de las Personas Privadas de Libertad encontrara en la Cárcel de Deborah una persona privada de libertad con posibles problemas psiquiátricos que permanece en condiciones inhumanas. Además, el personal administrativo labora en oficinas que no cumplen con las condiciones adecuadas.

2019-04-11Ireland and Northern Ireland Ombudsman sign MoU on cross-border bodies
The Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman, Marie Anderson, and the Irish Ombudsman, Peter Tyndall, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to provide for co-operation on complaints about North-South Implementation Bodies. The MoU will ensure that users of public services, both north and south of the Ireland/Northern Ireland border, will be able to have complaints investigated efficiently by the appropriate independent Ombudsman.

2019-04-10Ombudsman started community outreach program
Ombudsman Gwendolien Mossel and her team started a Community Outreach Program during the month of March. The Bureau visited the various districts to seek out the concerns, grievances and complaints of the people as well as continuing to promote awareness on the role of the institution.

2019-04-10Convenio de colaboración entre el Síndic de Greuges de Cataluña y el de Cornellà
El Síndic de Greuges de Cataluña, Rafael Ribó, y el Síndic de Greuges de Cornellà, Joan Barrera, han firmado un convenio de colaboración entre las instituciones que ambos encabezan. Con este, ya son 37 los convenios firmados con síndicos locales. Además, el Síndic de Greuges de Cataluña también tiene acuerdos de colaboración mutua con las nuevas universidades públicas catalanas.

2019-04-08Annual contacts to Ombudsman of Iowa exceed 5,000
Contacts to the Iowa Office of Ombudsman in 2018 reached their highest number in 17 years, according to an annual report released today. Letters and calls from inmates in Iowa’s county jails and their families increased most dramatically – the office fielded 68 percent more jail complaints last year than in 2016. Managed Medicaid complaints held steady after a massive influx in calls from patients and providers in 2017. In sum, complaints, information requests, and special projects in 2018 totaled 5,178. This is more than a 5 percent increase from 2017 and a 29 percent increase since 2013.
