2025-03-21The President of the Czech Republic confirmed the creation of the Children's Ombudsman with his signature
The Czech President sealed the amendment of the Ombudsman Act with his signature. The law will enter into force on 1 July 2025. Thus, the institution of the Children's Ombudsman will be created on that date. Until the election of its representative, the duties will be carried out by the Deputy Ombudsman, Vít Alexander Schorm. The amendment also extends the ombudsman's mandate to include a so-called "National Human Rights Institution" whose aim is to protect and promote human rights in the Czech Republic.

2025-07-04Ombudsman for Bermuda Annual Report 2024 Tabled
Michael DeSilva, the Ombudsman for Bermuda, has submitted his Annual Report for 2024 to the Speaker of the House of Assembly in accordance with his statutory duty under the Ombudsman Act 2004. The report was tabled in the House of Assembly on 27 June 2025 and it is now available to the public.

2025-07-04Inspector's report on men's rural prison released
On 19 June, the Palen Creen Correctional Centre inspection report was tabled in parliament. The report was prepared by the Queensland Ombudsman, Anthony Reilly, who is also the Inspector of Detention Services. The report makes 27 recommendations for areas of improvement for the men’s rural prison.

2025-07-03Record cases handled by Toronto Ombudsman in 2024 indicate increasing demand for accountability in local government
The City of Toronto’s Ombudsman handled 4,929 cases in 2024, a 43 per cent increase over the previous year and the highest on record. The most common fairness issues stemmed from poor communication, including no or delayed responses and inconsistent or incorrect information from City staff.

2025-07-03South Africa’s Public Protector begins an official visit to Malta ahead of thematic lecture on transparency, fairness, and accountability
Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka, Public Protector of South Africa, was in Malta at the invitation of Parliamentary Ombudsman Judge Joseph Zammit McKeon to address the thematic lecture “Transparency, Fairness and Accountability: Cornerstones of Good Administration – The Mandate of the Ombudsman” that took place on 12 June 2025 in the Plenary Hall of the House of Representatives. It was the first in a series of events marking the 30th anniversary of the Office of the Ombudsman.

2025-07-03Paula Sussex is named new Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman
Paula Sussex has been appointed Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) by His Majesty King Charles. She will take up the role from 1 August 2025 and arrangements are now in place, meaning all casework can progress as normal.
