2021-07-30Protecting human rights in prisons while preventing radicalization - a guide for detention monitors
Preventing and countering violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism (VERLT) is an area of increasing focus at the international, regional and national levels. This also applies to the prison context, due to fears that prisons may represent breeding grounds for VERLT. In a joint project, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and Penal Reform International (PRI) prepared a guide, which seeks to provide detention monitors with an enhanced understanding of VERLT and discusses the key human rights issues arising in the context of preventing and countering VERLT in prisons.

Le Bureau de l’ombud des vétérans (BOV) a publié aujourd’hui son rapport intitulé Soutien par les pairs pour les vétérans ayant subi un traumatisme sexuel militaire. Le BOV recommande au ministre des Anciens Combattants de mettre en place un programme de soutien par les pairs financé qui répond aux besoins des vétérans qui ont subi un TSM.

Saisie depuis 2017 de plusieurs réclamations de familles portant sur la situation d’enfants français et de leurs mères retenus dans les camps au nord-est de la Syrie, la Défenseure des droits a adressé des observations au Comité des droits de l’enfant, en qualité de tiers-intervenant au titre de sa mission de défense des droits et de l’intérêt supérieur de l’enfant que lui confie la loi organique du 29 mars 2011.

A 71-year-old cancer patient died after a Health Board provided her with a “very poor standard of care”, the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales has found. The Ombudsman launched an investigation after receiving a complaint about the care given to Mrs X (anonymised) in December 2019 by Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.

2024-06-05The new Seychelles Ombudsman
The new Ombudsman of Seychelles, Mr George Emmanuel Robert, was sworn in on Thursday, 16 May 2024, in a ceremony at State House. At the swearing-in ceremony, Mr Robert stated that he was truly honoured and humbled to have been appointed the fifth Ombudsman of Seychelles and is ready to work for the people of Seychelles to bring the office to the level that it was envisaged since its creation in 1993.

Seimas Ombudswoman Milda Vainiutė urged the authorities not to adopt amendments to the Republic of Lithuania Law on the Legal Status of Aliens, that would allow human rights violations and pose a threat to vulnerable migrants. After presenting the assessment of the proposed legal regulation, the Seimas Ombudswoman acknowledged that the draft law contradicts not only human rights, but also Lithuania’s international obligations.
