This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Seoul Metropolitan Government Citizens' Ombudsman Commission since it was launched for the first time among local governments of Republic of Korea in February 2016 as an independent collegiate administrative agency. As an ombudsman organization, the commission is responsible for monitoring the municipal administration and protecting the rights and interests of our valued citizens.

The Control Yuan (CY) has made the provision of diverse services a policy goal and been dedicated to the implementation of receiving complaints via videoconferencing. On 27 January 2021, the CY received its first inmate videoconference petition. This practice enables inmates deprived of physical and communication freedom to file complaints to CY members via videoconference.

Para cumplir con un fallo de la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos de noviembre de 2019, el pasado 8 de febrero de 2021 la titular de la intervención de la Dirección Nacional del SPF aprobó el “Protocolo de traslado de personas privadas de libertad en el ámbito del Servicio Penitenciario Federal”, publicado en el Boletín Público Normativo N° 731.

A partir de un monitoreo de rutina, integrantes de la PPN tomaron conocimiento de la situación de vulnerabilidad de una joven lactante que permanecía alojada en el Centro de Contraventores de la CABA. Ante esta situación, el organismo se presentó como amicus curiae acompañando la solicitud de prisión domiciliaria realizada por la defensa.

La Comisión Nacional de los Derechos Humanos (CNDH) advirtió, en este caso, violaciones a los derechos humanos a la protección a la salud y vida, al trato digno y al acceso a la información en materia de salud. La comision acreditó que personal de salud de la Unidad de Medicina Familiar número 19 y del Hospital General de Zona número 1 “Venados”, de la Ciudad de México, otorgaron atención inadecuada a un paciente, persona adulta mayor, quien cursaba con exacerbación de EPOC, y al no ser tratado de manera adecuada y oportuna, lamentablemente falleció.

2021-02-23USOA hosts virtual training on poverty, race and consciousness
The United States Ombudsman Association (USOA) hosted a four-hour virtual training on 22 October 2020, entitled “Poverty, Race, and Consciousness”. The presenters were Dr. Shariff Abdullah and Dr. Donna M. Beegle. There were 98 individuals registered for the event, 17 of which were IOI members. The event was funded by an IOI subvention.
