2017-08-30Number of complaints and investigations in the 2nd quarter of 2017
A total of 1991 complaints were received in the 2nd quarter of 2017, which is 54 less than in the same period last year. The ombudsman was approached by 1373 persons in matters falling within her competence under the law, which is 46 more than in the second quarter of the past year. Thus, the proportion of complaints falling within the Ombudsman’s mandate increased to 68% (the figure for the last year was 66%).

The complainant, widow of a deceased official of Revenue Department, approached the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh Mr. Asad Ashraf Malik for transfer of pension of her deceased husband in her favour as family pension. The department was allegedly delaying the transfer of family pension.

2017-08-24Ombudsman sensitizes Police, immigration and Prisons Departments
The office of the Ombudsman organized a one day sensitization workshop as part of the Ombudsman’s preparations to visit prisons, police cells and other detention centers. The workshop was attended by fifty eight participants from the Police, Immigration and Prisons departments as well as staff of the Ombudsman and Press officers and was held at Senegambia Hotel on 10th August 2017.

An Ombudsman investigation report relating to the conditions faced by women in the Alice Springs Women's Correctional Facility has been tabled in the Legislative Assembly. Women in Prison II revisits similar issues to those discussed in a 2008 Ombudsman report. It concludes that progress since then has been limited at best.

En el marco de las recorridas por los centros de detención, la Procuración Penitenciaria de la Nación (PPN) pudiera constatar serias violaciones a los derechos fundamentales de las personas privadas de libertad. Se advirtió la falta de acceso a la salud, trabajo, educación, alimentación, así como también pésimas condiciones materiales de alojamiento. Frente a la gravedad de la situación verificada, la PPN está trabajando en la elaboración de un informe y recomendaciones que serán presentadas a las autoridades.

Complaints made to the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales about Welsh NHS bodies have increased by 8% over the past year, according to new figures. The Ombudsman, Nick Bennett, said the continued trend was concerning and called on the National Assembly for Wales to push forward with new Ombudsman legislation that will help drive up standards of public service delivery.
