2015-08-17Denying Patients the free Entitlement to Medicines is causing an Injustice that needs to be remedied
The report is on four cases that the Commissioner for Health investigated and about which he is at an impasse with Department of Health for the last two years. One case concerns a Type 2 diabetic patient who had been prescribed Glargine Insulin by his Consultant Diabetologist. The Department’s policy is to give this type of insulin only to Type 1 patients, and, therefore, the patient was denied the treatment needed. There must be, of course, other patients with the same predicament.

2021-05-31Enquiry regarding a so-called enforced police assistance of a 13-year-old
A social welfare board requested the police's assistance to transport a 13-year-old girl to one of the National Board of Institutional Care’s residential homes for young people. The transport was delayed partly because the Police Authority and the social services disagreed on whether representatives of the social welfare board should accompany the transport, and partly because there were problems with booking a flight. 17 hours after the girl was taken into care the transport began by car and after 10 hours of transport, she arrived at the residential home

The Service Complaints Ombudsman for the Armed Forces (SCOAF) Annual Report 2020 was laid in Parliament today. The report is the fifth report to cover the work of the Service Complaints system and the Ombudsman’s office. There have been a number of improvements to the reformed Service Complaints system. However, the Ombudsman once more finds that the system is not yet efficient, effective and fair.

Con la participación del Defensor del Pueblo de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires Alejandro Amor, el martes 4 de agosto se realizó en el Salón Rojo de la Facultad de Derecho de la UBA la jornada de presentación del curso de Actualización en Políticas Públicas y Protección de Derechos, concebido para seguir capacitando y formando en materia de Derechos Humanos a todos los cuadros públicos que trabajan cotidianamente en las Defensorías del Pueblo y en otros organismos estatales afines.

2015-08-10Prof. Lipowicz leaves office as Human Rights Defender
On 7 August 2015 the Senate approved the appointment of Dr. Adam Bodnar as seventh Polish Human Rights Defender. Mr Bodnar, who will take office after having taken the oath before the Sejm (Parliament), will succeed Prof. Irena Lipowicz. On behalf of the international Ombudsman community, the IOI would like to thank Prof. Lipowicz for the valuable and significant contributions she made as a member of the IOI Board of Directors.

2021-05-27Police stops in Europe: everyone has a right to equal treatment
A new paper by the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) reveals the differences between people’s experiences with police stops. It shows that Black people, Asians and Roma are still more likely to be stopped and searched by police, which also affects their trust in policing. FRA will continue providing EU countries with data and guidance to support them in ensuring their policing practices respect people’s fundamental rights.
