Ombudsman’s Annual Report for 2024: Without dialogue and political will there can be no changes for the better
On 10 July 2025, Deputy Human Rights Ombudsman Ivan Šelih - who has been leading the Human Rights Ombudsman institution since the conclusion of Ombudsman Peter Svetina’s term on 24 February 2025 - and Deputy Ombudsman Dr. Dijana Možina Zupanc presented the 2024 Annual Report of the Human Rights Ombudsman to the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, Urška Klakočar Zupančič, MSc. On this occasion, they also presented her with the Annual Report of the National Preventive Mechanism.

ACRC Introduces Generative AI to the e-People System - Initiating Innovation in AI-Based Civil Complaint Services
The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission launched the pilot generative AI service based on a domestic large language model. It plans to continuously advance its civil complaint services by incorporating AI technology into various civil complaint handling tasks.

2024 Annual Report of the Control Yuan is now available in English and Spanish
The English and Spanish versions of the 2024 Annual Report of the Control Yuan (CY) have now been released. In 2024, the CY received 15,342 people’s complaints; issued 283 investigation reports; passed 27 impeachment cases and 1 censure case, as well as proposed 101 corrective measures cases.

Public Protector of South Africa to deliver Thematic Lecture in Parliament hosted by the Office of the Ombudsman
As part of the Office of the Ombudsman’s 30th Anniversary commemorations, the office will be organising a Thematic Lecture focusing on the mandate of the Ombudsman. This event will highlight the crucial principles of transparency, fairness, and accountability within public administration. It will be held on 12th June 2025 in the Plenary Hall of the House of Representatives in Malta, under the theme “Transparency, Fairness, Accountability: Cornerstones of Good Administration - The Mandate of the Ombudsman.” The Office of the Ombudsman is honoured to welcome Adv. Kholeka Gcaleka, the Public Protector of South Africa, as keynote speaker.

The Commissioner for Administration and the Protection of Human Rights, Mrs. Maria Stylianou-Lottides, submitted today, on January 15, 2025, to the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nicos Christodoulides, the Annual Report of her Office for the year 2023, as well as the individual Annual Reports detailing the work and action of the Office under the mandates of the Commissioner as the Equality Body and the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM).

Report on the monitoring of the Mandatory Disease Testing Act 2021, tabled in Parliament
On 5 February 2025, the NSW Ombudsman’s report monitoring the Mandatory Disease Testing Act 2021, was tabled in Parliament. The NSW Ombudsman has a statutory role to monitor the administration of the Mandatory Disease Testing Act 2021, providing for mandatory blood testing of a person whose bodily fluids have come into contact with those of a public sector worker in a work context.

The Ombudsman of the Republic of Angola celebrates for the first time the International Day of the Ombudsman
The event was held on October 10th and included an opening speech by the Angolan Ombudsman, the representative of the National Assembly, the interim UN representative in Angola, the PNUD representative in Angola, followed by presentations of virtual speeches by Her Excellency the President of the International Ombudsman Institute, Dra. Nashieli Ramírez Hernández, the Executive Director of the International Ombudsman Association, Dra. Ellen Miller, the Secretary of the African Ombudsman and Mediators Association (AOMA), Dra Caroline Sokoni, and other representatives of Angolan state bodies.

NHRIs reveal key developments and challenges impacting rule of law across the European Union
For the sixth consecutive year, National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) in the European Union (EU) have provided insights into their national rule of law landscapes. Overall, these show negative trends in areas such as the enabling space for NHRIs, civil society space and human rights defenders, access to justice, and media freedom. Despite the concerning picture, NHRIs continue working to counter these challenges and some progress is evident. Building on this, they recommend how policymakers can strengthen the rule of law across the EU.

The New Chief Ombudsman of the Republic of Türkiye Has Been Elected
Mr. Mehmet AKARCA has been elected at the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (GNAT) as the new Chief Ombudsman of the Republic of Türkiye. Mr. Mehmet Akarca was sworn in on 03 December 2024 and officially took office as the new Chief Ombudsman of Türkiye.
