Ombudsman hands over the Annual reports of the Ombudsman and NPM to the Speaker of the National Assembly
On 6 June 2024, Human Rights Ombudsman Peter Svetina handed over the 29th regular Annual Report of the Human Rights Ombudsman and the 16th report of the National Preventive Mechanism for 2023 to the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, Urška Klakočar Zupančič, MA, after he had forwarded it to the National Assembly one day prior in accordance with Article 5 of the Human Rights Ombudsman Act. After the meeting, the Ombudsman and the Speaker of the DZ made a public statement.

Chief Ombudsman calls for council workshops to be open by default
The Chief Ombudsman Peter Boshier is calling for councils to open workshops by default to reduce the perception that decisions are being made behind closed doors. The call follows Mr Boshier’s decision last year to test concerns that councils were using workshops and other informal meetings to make decisions. He also looked at the way councils were excluding the public from council meetings.

BC Ombudsperson releases 2023 report “Time to Right the Wrong”
The Ombudsperson of British Colombia (BC) released its report on 18 July 2023. It addresses the recent complaints to the Ombudsperson from surviving members of the Doukhobor community, who were apprehended, institutionalized and maltreated as children in the 1950s.
