2022-10-20Regional meeting held in New Zealand
The IOI’s Australasian & Pacific Region (APOR) held a conference on 13 October 2022 and its 34th annual members’ meeting on 14 October 2022 in Wellington, New Zealand. The conference, on remaining relevant and getting government to listen, was co-hosted by Victorian Ombudsman Deborah Glass OBE as Regional President and New Zealand Chief Ombudsman and IOI 2nd Vice President Peter Boshier.

2022-10-19Health care complaints to B.C. Ombudsperson highest in ten years
The BC Ombudsperson’s 2021/22 Annual Report, released 18 October, highlights that complaints about health care from British Columbians were the highest in a decade. The office received almost 1,300 complaints and enquiries focused on programs and services provided by the Ministry of Health and B.C.’s health authorities.

2022-10-13National Ombudsman undertakes Peer Review
On October 21-22 in Manchester, the UK National Ombudsman will be submitting itself to an IOI-led Ombudsman peer review. The UK National Ombudsman undertook its first peer review in 2018. Since then, the Ombudsman has led the international effort to establish peer review as a critical tool to assess effectiveness more broadly, including against the Venice Principles. As a result, there are now IOI best practice papers and guidance on the subject.
