In July 2013 St Maarten Ombudsman Nilda Arduin brought her first-ever case before the Constitutional Court of Sint Maarten, requesting the Court to review the new Criminal Code of St Maarten as to its compliance with the Constitution of Sint Maarten. On Friday, 8 November 2013, the Constitutional Court delivered its judgment.

El Presidente de la Comisión Nacional de Derechos Humanos de México, Raúl Plascencia Villanueva, fue electo Presidente. El Defensor del Pueblo de la provincia de Santa Fe, Dr. Edgardo José Bistoletti fue reelecto representante de los Defensores del Pueblo provinciales argentinos.

Queen Margaret University (QMU) is consulting ombudsman organisations on a new Masters programme in dispute resolution. QMU has been running ombudsman and complaint handling training programmes for a number of years and is now seeking to further develop provision for dispute resolvers.

The year at a glance: While statistics do not provide a full picture of the Ombudsman’s work, they do show that the office continues to deal with a large number of matters. This year, the Ombudsman received 36,765 complaints and notifications. This includes 8,724 formal matters and 28,041 informal matters.

2013-10-23Child death review team annual report 2012
The NSW Child Death Review Team’s Annual Report for 2012 was tabled in Parliament today by the Team’s Convenor, the NSW Ombudsman. The report examines the deaths of 493 children registered in NSW in 2012. ‘The rate of child deaths is the lowest since the Team began in 1996,’ said the Ombudsman, Bruce Barbour.
