La Procuración Penitenciaria de la Nación (PPN) firmó el 31 de julio en la ciudad de Posadas, Misiones, un Convenio Marco de Colaboración con la Comisión Provincial de Prevención de la tortura de la Provincia de Misiones. Ambos organismos mediante esta rúbrica, convienen en celebrar el presente convenio de colaboración y en realizar una transferencia de conocimientos.

El Defensor del Pueblo pide reforzar la protección de los niños y niñas víctimas de trata
El Defensor del Pueblo (e.f.), Francisco Fernández Marugán, pide reforzar la protección de los niños y niñas víctimas de trata en el Día Mundial contra la Trata, establecido por Naciones Unidas. La Institución considera necesario elaborar un protocolo nacional para la detección y protección de víctimas de trata menores de edad en el que intervengan todas las entidades de protección de menores autonómicas.

La Defensoría del Pueblo de Santa Fe invita a participar del Premio FIO al Periodismo de Derechos Humanos
Este año el concurso de la Federación Iberoamericana del Ombudsman (FIO) reconocerá un trabajo que defienda los derechos de los niños, adolescentes y jóvenes migrantes en situación de vulnerabilidad en Iberoamérica. Hasta el 30 de agosto pueden postularse publicaciones realizadas entre el 1 de mayo de 2016 y el 5 de mayo de 2017. El ganador se llevará una beca de estudio en el Instituto Berg, de España.

New Ombudsman appointed
Zoran Pašalić, lawyer from Belgrade, was elected as new Protector of Citizens (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Serbia. Mr. Pašalić was born in 1958. In his long career he worked on legal issues in number of companies, and as of 2003 started career as a judge. Prior to the election as the new Ombudsman, Mr. Pašalić was President of Appellate Misdemeanor Court.

Austrian Ombudsman Board achieves A status accreditation with GANHRI
In April 2022, the Austrian Ombudsman Board (AOB) was officially recognized as A status institution by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI). The AOB is now one of 90 out of 130 institutions worldwide that are fully compliant with the ‘Principles Relating to the Status of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs)’ (“Paris Principles”).

New Alberta Ombudsman appointed
Marianne Ryan was officially appointed as Alberta’s ninth Ombudsman and second Public Interest Commissioner on 4 July 2017. Prior to becoming the Ombudsman and Public Interest Commissioner, Ms Ryan led a successful career that spanned 35 years with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Necessity to ensure independence of Ombudsman for Children
The Ombudswoman of the Republic of Croatia expressed concern regarding parts of the Draft Act on Ombudsman for Children. In her opinion, she underlined the importance of strengthening the capacity and indepdence of this office, in order to ensure compliance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

UN Global Compact on Migration: Preventing torture of migrants should be at core of Compact
In view of the increasing use of immigration detention as a deterrent of migration and the toughening of doemstic and regional migration policies resulting in human rights violations, the APT considers the Global Compact on Migration to be a timely opportunity to raise concerns over these issues. APT proposes a position paper that contains seven key advocacy messages that are indispensable to the Compact from a torture prevention perspective.
