Annual Report of the Information Commissioner and Commissioner for Environmental Inforamtion
30,417 requests under the Freedom of Information Act were made to public bodies in 2016. This was the highest number of FOI requests ever recorded. The number of applications made to the Information Commissioner to review FOI decisions rose by 32% in the same year.

Ya se encuentra disponible el Informe Anual 2016 de la Procuración Penitenciaria de la Nación. El Informe fue presentado ante el Honorable Congreso de la Nación. Mediante dicho informe se pone en conocimiento los problemas más graves que condicionan la vigencia de los derechos humanos en las cárceles del Servicio Penitenciario Federal y en otros lugares de detención donde se encuentran personas privadas de libertad.

Memorandum of Understanding signed with UNITAR
On 12 May 2022 the IOI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in a virtual signing ceremony in New York. Within the framework of this MoU, both organizations seek to develop and implement training and capacity building activities to empower Ombudsman institutions.

Public Defender appeals to Venice Commission
The Public Defender of Georgia, Mr Ucha Nanuashvili, has addressed the Venice Commission concerning the draft amendments to the Constitution of Georgia, which had not been taken into account within the framework of the State’s Constitutional Commission, during the evaluating period. In his letter the Public Defender focuses on the amendments aimed at weakening the standards of protection and implementation of fundamental human rights and freedoms enshrined in the current edition of the Constitution.
