2024-03-06Ombudsman Commission helps secure estate for beneficiaries
On 3 March 2022, the Ombudsman Commission received a Complaint regarding the alleged delay in the transfer of the title for a deceased estate and overcharging of administrative fees by the office of the Public Trustee of Papua New Guinea. It was alleged that the Office of the Public Trustee had charged excessive fees and had delayed the transfer of a title of a deceased estate to the beneficiaries.

2024-09-12The Ombudsman presents the Ombudsplan 2025 to Parliament
Pursuant to Section 10(4) of the Ombudsman Act 1995, the Ombudsman, Judge Emeritus Joseph Zammit McKeon, has submitted the Ombudsplan 2025 to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Hon. Anġlu Farrugia. The Ombudsplan 2025 sets out the planned activities and initiatives that the Office of the Ombudsman aims to undertake in the coming year. It also provides Parliament with an update on the concerns raised in the previous year’s Ombudsplan.

2024-07-10Annual Report 2023 – a credible and trusted institution closer to the people
On 8 July 2024, the Parliamentary Ombudsman, Judge Emeritus Joseph Zammit McKeon, presented the Annual Report 2023 to the Speaker of the House, Anglu Farrugia. Throughout 2023, the Office of the Ombudsman focused on enhancing its working relationship with the public administration. It adopted an open-door policy, reaching out to the public and government entities alike.

On 8 January 2026, the Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, announced the completion of a direct investigation operation into the work of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on landslide prevention and mitigation as well as management of government slopes, with 32 major recommendations for improvements made to the Civil Engineering and Development Department, the Lands Department, the Highways Department, the Water Supplies Department and the Architectural Services Department.

2024-08-01Ombudsman challenges ISS position on unemployment benefit for victims of domestic violence
The Ombudsman’s Office has pleaded with the Social Security Institute (ISS) the right to unemployment benefits for victims of domestic violence who have terminated their employment contracts under the terms of the Decent Work Agenda Law, in force since May 2023. A different position is being adopted by the ISS, which only recognises this right in cases of termination after 1 December 2023.

That’s according to Plan for Places, Two Years On from the Ombudsman for Children’s Office, which examines whether progress has been made on recommendations made in the institution's previous Plan for Places report in 2022.
