    Ombudsman launches new website

    In a ceremony held on 19 October 2015, the Office of the Ombudsman of The Gambia presented its new website. In her welcome remarks, Ombudsman Fatou Njie-Jallow indicated that the website is aimed at creating more awareness among citizens about the role and function of the Office and she encouraged all to make use of the online complaints service which, she indicated, would save them time and energy.

    Nova Scotia Ombudsman releases Annual Report 2020-2021

    Nova Scotia Ombudsman William A. Smith said the year 2020-2021 has been "like no other" for his Office, as it adapted to the new normal of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Mr. Smith released his annual report today, June 29, 2021. He said the Ombudsman's office, like other services and businesses "has had to modify its approach to address changing restrictions and evolving needs."

    Merida Declaration on NHRIs' role in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

    On 10 October 2015 a unique alliance of National Human Rights Institutions from all around the world adopted the Merida Declaration on the Role of National Human Rights Institutions in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This landmark document encourages all NHRIs, in line with their mandates under the Paris Principles, to collaborate in mutual capacity building and sharing of experiences to contribute to a human rights-based approach to implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

    El Defensor del Pueblo Andaluz ha comparecido hoy en Pleno del Parlamento para presentar el resumen del Informe Anual de 2014 y trasladarles las demandas de las más de 165.000 personas que han acudido a la Institución, y que se han materializado en cerca de 19.000 actuaciones en defensa y protección de los derechos: 9012 quejas tramitadas, 9185 consultas y cerca de 500 actividades de promoción de derechos.

    Maya Manolova takes office as national ombudsman

    On 20 October 2015 Maya Manolova assumed office as the new national Ombudsman of Bulgaria. Ms Manolova, a former Member of Parliament with the Bulgarian Socialist Party, was elected as the new Ombudsman at the end of July 2015 and will follow former Ombudsman Konstantin Penchev.

In his 2020-2021 Annual Report, the Ombudsman details how his office helped thousands of Ontarians navigate confusing and rapidly changing information about public services during the COVID-19 pandemic. From simple referrals to complex investigations, Ombudsman staff interventions bridged gaps in systems under stress.

Dans son Rapport annuel 2020-2021, l’Ombudsman explique en détail comment son Bureau a aidé des milliers d'Ontarien(ne)s à s’orienter au milieu des renseignements confus et évoluant rapidement sur les services publics pendant la pandémie de COVID-19. Qu’il s'agisse de simples renvois ou d’enquêtes complexes, les interventions du personnel de l’Ombudsman ont permis de combler des lacunes de systèmes sous pression.

    OHCHR Investigation contributes to reconciliation and justice development in Sri Lanka

    The Investigation Report issued by the Office of the United Nation’s High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) dated 16th September 2015, is the most comprehensive report on human rights issued by any international or national agency to date. It is comprehensive and balanced. If implemented it could lead to considerable positive developments in Sri Lanka. This 261 page report sums up some of the most serious problems relating to the rule of law and the administration of justice that have arisen over a considerable period of time.

    "People first" - Visegrád Group's Ombudsmen

    The Four Visegrád Ombudsmen, including the Public Defender of Rights of the Czech Republic, the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary, the Public Defender of Rights of the Slovak Republic and the Deputy Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Poland, held a meeting in Visegrád, Hungary, from 30 September to 02 October, 2015. During this event, the Ombudsmen accepted a joint statement in relation to the current refugee and migration crisis affected this European region.
