2024-11-22Safeguarding Children’s Rights in the Domain of Sports and Physical Activities
In an effort to raise awareness about children’s rights in the context of sports, the Office of the Ombudsperson for Children collaborated with the Mauritius Olympic Committee to participate in a workshop titled “Safeguarding Children’s Rights in the Sports Context,” organised on 16 November 2024. The event brought together 35 participants, including athletes and coaches, to engage in meaningful discussions and training on the rights of children in sports and the ethical responsibilities of those working with young athletes.

2024-10-10The Ombudsman resigns in order to become judge with the Court of Justice of the European Union
On 2 October 2024, the governments of the EU Member States appointed the Danish Parliamentary Ombudsman as judge to the Court of Justice of the European Union. He will be sworn in and take office on 7 October 2024. For the same reason, Niels Fenger resigns as Ombudsman, with effect from the same day.

The Commonwealth Ombudsman has released a report about its investigation into the use of financial remedies by Australian government agencies. The investigation found instances where the administration of financial remedies for government wrongs was defensive, passive, secretive, inconsistent and untimely.

Canada’s Taxpayers’ Ombudsperson, Mr. François Boileau, released his annual report, Fair Access to Service, which was tabled on 8 October 2024 in the House of Commons by Ms. Iqra Khalid, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Revenue. The report provides an overview of the activities of the Office of the Taxpayers’ Ombudsperson between April 1, 2023, and March 31, 2024.

2024-10-10International Ombudsman Summit 2024 and Hong Kong Ombudsman 35th Anniversary Reception
The year 2024 marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the Office of The Ombudsman, Hong Kong, China.
