El pasado sábado 8 de julio, por la tarde, se produjo la muerte por ahorcamiento de un detenido alojado en el Pabellón A de la Unidad Residencial IV del CPF I de Ezeiza. Se trata del séptimo fallecimiento bajo esa modalidad en el establecimiento, misma cantidad que en los treinta y seis meses anteriores (dos en 2014, tres en 2015 y dos más en 2016).

New Zealand’s first female Ombudsman, Nadja Tollemache OBE, has passed away at her home in Auckland. Ms Tollemache, who served as Ombudsman from 13 May 1987 to 30 June 1992, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones.

On the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA), First Vice-President of the IOI Diane Welborn and Secretary General Günther Kräuter were represented at AOA’s 15th General Assembly, jointly held by national and provincial ombudsman of the region. Diane Welborn’s opening speech on the successful work of the AOA in the fight against corruption and Günther Kräuter’s contributions to two sessions of the conference formed part of an excellently organized conference dealing with the past, present and future perspectives of Asian Ombudsman institutions.

At its annual meeting in Vienna the IOI Board of Directors adopted a declaration requesting the Congress of Argentina to accelerate procedures to appoint the National Ombudsman – a position which has remained vacant for the past seven years – and the National Ombudsman for Children and Adolescents – a position which remains vacant since its creation in 2005.
