The Ombudsman of the Kingdom of Lesotho, Advocate Tlotliso Polaki, regrets to announce to the international Ombudsman community, the passing of Honourable Mohale Henry Nt'saba on the 19th November 2024, a few months before his 100th birthday. Honourable Nt’saba was the pioneer Ombudsman of the Kingdom of Lesotho, who established the office from inception.

2024-11-22Safeguarding Children’s Rights in the Domain of Sports and Physical Activities
In an effort to raise awareness about children’s rights in the context of sports, the Office of the Ombudsperson for Children collaborated with the Mauritius Olympic Committee to participate in a workshop titled “Safeguarding Children’s Rights in the Sports Context,” organised on 16 November 2024. The event brought together 35 participants, including athletes and coaches, to engage in meaningful discussions and training on the rights of children in sports and the ethical responsibilities of those working with young athletes.

2021-12-07Victorian Ombudsman findings on Department of Health border exemption scheme
The Victorian Ombudsman released her latest Investigation into decision-making under the Victorian Border Crossing Permit Directions. The report shows rather than fairly considering individual circumstances and risks, the exemptions scheme was a blunt instrument that resulted in unjust outcomes, potentially for thousands of people. Some found themselves effectively homeless and caught up in a bureaucratic nightmare. More than 300 complainants told their stories as part of the investigation.

During this week, the Ararteko wishes to highlight that restorative justice allows both the offender or aggressor and the injured party or victim of any type of crime or conflict to be reintegrated in society as social assets, while engaging society in the rehabilitation and reintegration. Restorative Justice Week is celebrated around the world during the third week of November. The theme of this year's week is Protect and Empower the Person Harmed.

In October 2024, the Ararteko-Ombudsman of the Basque Country presented a research “Study on Sexist Attitudes among the Youth and Adolescent Population of the Basque Country”. The research is intended to allow a better understanding of the phenomenon of sexist attitudes among the youth and adolescence and extract a series of conclusions, to use them as a basis for recommendations to support decision-makers and improve public policies on gender equality.

L'Ararteko-Ombudsman du Pays basque a présenté en octobre 2024 une recherche intitulée « Attitudes machistes chez les jeunes et les adolescents d’Euskadi ». L'étude a pour but de permettre une meilleure compréhension du phénomène des attitudes machistes chez les filles et garçons jeunes et adolescents et d'extraire une série de conclusions, afin de les utiliser comme base de recommandations pour soutenir les autorités publiques et améliorer les politiques publiques en matière d'égalité entre les hommes et les femmes.
