Des commissaires linguistiques, ombudsmans et experts des droits linguistiques des quatre coins du monde se sont réunis au centre-ville de Toronto cette semaine dans le cadre de la sixième conférence de l’Association internationale des commissaires linguistiques (AICL). Cette conférence a coïncidé avec le 50e anniversaire de la Loi sur les langues officielles du Canada et la déclaration des Nations Unies consacrant 2019 comme étant l’Année internationale des langues autochtones.

Defensoría del Pueblo insta al Estado a cumplir el Convenio N° 169 de la OIT
Hoy se cumplen 30 años de la aprobación del Convenio N° 169 de la Organización Internacional del Trabajo (OIT) sobre derechos de los pueblos indígenas. Por ello, la Defensoría del Pueblo invocó a todos los niveles de gobierno, al Congreso de la República, al Poder Judicial y a otras instituciones del Estado, a implementar una acción coordinada a favor de los derechos individuales y colectivos de los pueblos indígenas del país. Así también, instó a que se incorpore el enfoque de género en toda la normatividad debido a que las mujeres indígenas se encuentran en una situación de mayor vulnerabilidad y exclusión.

State Trustees failed some of Victoria’s vulnerable people
A woman whose life possessions were sent to the tip, an elderly man who had over $2,000 taken from his account to pay for someone else’s fines, and a person whose file was handled by up to 48 different staff in 14 months.These are among the cases reviewed as part of Victorian Ombudsman Deborah Glass’s Investigation into State Trustees, tabled in the Victorian Parliament this morning.

Víctimas de la tortura
Desde 1997 se conmemora cada 26 de junio el día Internacional en apoyo de las víctimas de la tortura. Con motivo de dicha evocación, nuestra institución declara una vez más el rechazo de este tipo de prácticas en todas sus manifestaciones y reitera su compromiso con la promoción de la defensa de los derechos humanos de las personas que están privadas de su libertad.

The Danish Parliamentary Ombudsman, Jørgen Steen Sørensen, has just published the institution´s Annual Report 2018 and as every year the Ombudsman has given many talks on the institution´s work. The talks usually give rise to discussions and questions, mostly about cases the Ombudsman has investigated. But also many questions on what it is really like to be Ombudsman.

Ombudsman Montreal files Annual Report 2018 with Montreal City Council
The Ombudsman of Montréal (OdM), Johanne Savard, filed the 15th Annual Report (2018) of their institution. This report includes statistical and general information on the activities of the Ombudsman, examples of files that were handled as well as information on the role and mandate of the office of the Ombudsman. Part 4 of the report is particularly interesting: it provides an overview of all the 2018 OdM interventions for each entity over which the Ombudsman has jurisdiction.

Ombudsman encourages youth for protection of the environment
Azerbaijan Child and Peace Network (ACYPN) and the Resource Center of the Ombudsman on Child Rights held an event on the occasion of 5 June- World Environment Day as previous years. The aim of the event was to educate children in the spirit love to the environment, efficient use of our natural resources, shaping their ecological consciousness, also preservation of biological diversity.
