2015-11-23Report on issues associated with violence restraining orders and their relationship with family and domestic violence fatalities
The Western Australian Ombudsman has tabled a report of a major investigation into the prevention of family and domestic violence fatalities. The report identifies a range of important opportunities for improvements, including the need for a separate strategy to prevent Aboriginal family violence given that Aboriginal Western Australians are significantly overrepresented as victims of family violence. The report further identifies nine key principles for government agencies to apply when responding to family and domestic violence. Each agency has agreed to the 54 recommendations made by the Ombudsman.

2021-07-15Ombudsman sees more data, police and whistleblower complaints
The Office of the Ombudsman’s annual report for 2020 was made public in Parliament on 14 July 2021. During 2020, the office fielded a total of 332 enquiries from members of the public, opened 231 cases for either investigation or informal resolution and resolved 210 cases. By way of comparison, the office opened 30 more cases overall during 2020 than in 2019, despite the pandemic and government lockdown during the second quarter.

The Ombudsman of Hong Kong, China, Ms Winnie Chiu, announced the launch of two own-motion investigations. One will examine the operational arrangements for statutory visits under the Justices of the Peace Visit Programme (JP Visit Programme); the other one will investigate problems of alleged illegal operation of kaito ferry service.

Pursuant to section 17 of the Organic Act of Ombudsmen B.E. 2560 (2017), Mr Viddhavat Rajatanun has completed his term as Chief Ombudsman of Thailand. Following the Royal Proclamation Appointment granted by His Majesty the King Mahavajiralongkorn, Mr. Somsak Suwansujarit was appointed Chief Ombudsman of Thailand and Assoc.Prof. Issaree Hunsacharoonroj as Ombudsman of Thailand.

2015-11-05Scottish Public Services Ombudsman publishes Annual Report 2014/2015
The Office of the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman published its 2014-15 annual report. It charts another year of achievement for the SPSO. We handled a record number of complaints about public services, and further improved our productivity and the quality of our service. We helped almost 5,600 people, providing independent advice and support and looking into the issues people brought us where we could. Our investigations led to over 1,400 recommendations for improvement to public services.
