The Azerbaijani Ombudsman organizes regular meetings and public awareness campaigns with different groups of population including minorities, local and religious communities in different regions of the country, learning their problems and taking necessary measures in resolving them, said Zaur Valimammadli, the chief of the international relations department of the Ombudsman Institution, at the High-Level Conference devoted to the 25th anniversary of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) in Paris, France.

I.O.I. training survey
The I.O.I. Board decided in 2009 to focus on training activities which will help both to maintain and raise the level of professionalism in Ombudsman offices around the world. In order to identify the specific training the I.O.I. General Secretariat has sent all member institutions a questionnaire that should help identifying their individual training needs. Based on recommendations by the Training Committee the Board will discuss and decide on future regional training activities.

Defensoría del Pueblo reporta más de 680 casos de presunta tortura y malos tratos en los ultimos dos años
Con ocasión de conmemorarse el Día Internacional en Apoyo de las Víctimas de la Tortura, el 26 de junio, la Defensoría del Pueblo dio a conocer el primer Reporte de casos de presunta tortura y otros tratos o penas crueles, inhumanos o degradantes conocidos por el Mecanismo Nacional de Prevención de la Tortura, en el que se da cuenta de un total de 687 casos registrados por las diversas oficinas de la Defensoría del Pueblo, entre 2021 y el primer trimestre de 2023.

Control Yuan conducts investigation on homecare workers forced to donate part of their pay
In August 2017, a group of 18 homecare workers hired by the privately-run Ching-Kuan Social Welfare Charity Foundation accused the foundation of unlawfully forcing them to return part of their pay. The foundation was commissioned by Tainan City Government to provide home care services during the period from 2013 to 2015. To safeguard the rights of these workers, the Control Yuan (CY) of Taiwan launched an investigation into the case.

Queensland Ombudsman presents Annual Report 2018-19
The Office of the Queensland Ombudsman of Australia continues to contribute strongly to fair and accountable public administration in Queensland. The recently released annual report for 2018-19 highlights its role in assessing and investigating complaints. The Office finalised 7,831 complaints and completed 1,255 investigations. Of these, 192 investigations resulted in the rectification of an issue, which is where the Ombudsman recommends an agency change a decision or action as a result of a complaint.

Croatian Parliament Adopts Ombudswoman’s 2021 Annual Report
On June 2, 2023, in its plenary session, the Croatian Parliament discussed, and on June 7, 2023, adopted the Ombudswoman’s Annual Report for 2021, thus expressing support for the recommendations contained therein aimed at stronger protection of human rights in Croatia. At the same time, it was emphasized that it would be extremely important for the Croatian Parliament to discuss and adopt the new 2022 Annual Report, submitted in March, as soon as possible, as this would contribute to a higher level of the recommendations’ fulfillment.
