Commonwealth Ombudsman – Report: Following the law is not optional - an investigation into ongoing non-compliance
On 27 January 2026, the Commonwealth Ombudsman released a new report, ‘Following the law is not optional - an investigation to address an ongoing issue of agency non-compliance with the law’. The Ombudsman’s investigation found 2 Australian government agencies were aware of an instance of the law not being applied correctly to decisions about child support payments.

Formation sur les droits des personnes en situation de handicap et l’accessibilité des services publics
Le 18, 19 et 20 juin 2019, les membres de L’Association des Ombudsmans et des Médiateurs de la Francophonie (AOMF) se sont réunis au Centre de formation et d’échange en médiation de Rabat (Maroc) pour partager leur expertise et bonnes pratiques en médiation sur la question des personnes en situation de handicap et l’accessibilité des services publics.

Justicia hizo lugar a una habeas corpus presentado por la PPN ante deficientes condiciones edilicias de alcaidía policial
Tras registrar que las personas detenidas en la alcaidía duermen y comen en el suelo, a la vez que cuentan con una letrina para más de 40 detenidos, la PPN presentó una acción de habeas corpus correctivo y colectivo. La Justicia hizo lugar al pedido y exhortó a las autoridades policiales a revertir la situación.

El 21 de noviembre de 2023, el Defensor del Pueblo, Ángel Gabilondo, y el presidente de UNICEF España, Gustavo Suárez Pertierra, mantenaron un encuentro en la sede de la institución Defensor del Pueblo con un grupo de niñas, niños y jóvenes, de diferentes puntos del país, que forman parte del Grupo Asesor de Infancia de UNICEF España.

40th USOA annual conference to be held in Hawaii
The 40th Annual Conference of the United States Ombudsman Association (USOA) will be held in Honolulu, Hawaii from 18 – 20 September 2019. The conference is hosted by the Office of the Ombudsman of Hawaii, since 2019 also marks the 50th anniversary of the institution.

El Parlamento Vasco designa ararteko a Mikel Mancisidor
El 18 de diciembre de 2025, el pleno del Parlamento Vasco designó a Mikel Mancisidor para ocupar el cargo de ararteko (Ombudsman de Euskadi). Sucede en el cargo a Manuel Lezertua, que presentó su renuncia en junio de 2025. El nuevo ararteko tomará posesión del cargo de ararteko el próximo 5 de febrero de 2026.

Ombudsman’s investigation triggers review of cancer treatment wait times at NHS Trust
The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) recently investigated the care of of a 67-year-old woman who was treated at Broomfield Hospital, run by the Trust, in 2023. Her death has triggered a systemic review of cancer treatment and diagnosis wait times at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

Defensoría del Pueblo reporta más de 680 casos de presunta tortura y malos tratos en los ultimos dos años
Con ocasión de conmemorarse el Día Internacional en Apoyo de las Víctimas de la Tortura, el 26 de junio, la Defensoría del Pueblo dio a conocer el primer Reporte de casos de presunta tortura y otros tratos o penas crueles, inhumanos o degradantes conocidos por el Mecanismo Nacional de Prevención de la Tortura, en el que se da cuenta de un total de 687 casos registrados por las diversas oficinas de la Defensoría del Pueblo, entre 2021 y el primer trimestre de 2023.
