2020-05-27UNESCO launches 2020 survey on public access to information
UNESCO has kicked off a global survey on public access to information within its efforts to assist countries to report on Sustainable Development Goal 16, particularly on its Target 16.10 which recognizes the contribution of access to information to justice, peace and strong institutions. Using SDG Indicator 16.10.2, the survey will track progress on the adoption and implementation of constitutional, statutory and/or policy guarantees for public access to information around the world.

In an own-initiative Report dated 8 May 2020, the Cyprus Commissioner for Administration and the Protection of Human Rights suggested that public and private hospitals with gynecological clinics should allow fathers to be present during childbirth and the birth of their children, provided that each father is successfully subjected to a COVID-19 negative test.

Complaints to the Ombudsman rose by 9% to 3,664 in 2019. It is the highest number of complaints received by the Ombudsman since 2010. Ombudsman Peter Tyndall examines complaints about public services, such as those provided by government departments, local authorities and the HSE.

2023-10-19Ombudsman Sindh facilitates the issuance of complainant‘s number plate and an apology by the responsible police officer
A complainant alleged that the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department failed to issue him the number plates of his vehicle despite payment of charges due to which he faced inconvenience and harassment by road side police officers. On intervention of the Ombudsman Sindh, the agency issued his number plate and also the traffic police officer submitted an apology through a written statement for his misconduct.
