Ciclo de charlas sobre el derecho a la ciudad
La Defensoría del Pueblo de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires junto a la Comisión de Derechos Humanos de la Ciudad de México (CDHCM) y con auspicio de la Alianza Global del Ombudsperson Local (AGOL), se unen para realizar un ciclo de charlas sobre el Derecho a la Ciudad. Doctor of Laws Petri Jääskeläinen has been re-elected to serve as Parliamentary Ombudsman of Finland for a term of four years from January 2022 – December 2025. Dr. Jääskeläinen has already acted as Parliamentary Ombudsman two four-year terms.

Recommendations by Ombudsman Sindh on issue of girls education
On the initiative of Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, Pakistan, Mr. Ajaz Ali Khan, Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) has conducted a research study on the issues of girls education in Sindh, which was sponsored by the International Ombudsman Institute within its regional subsidies programme. The Honourable Chief Minister Sindh inaugurated the launching ceremony on 21 October, 2021.

The Ombudsman, Ms Winnie Chiu, announced the launch of a direct investigation to examine the Government’s operational arrangements for the pilot scheme on Community Care Service Voucher for the elderly. The Government’s current elderly care policy is to promote “ageing in place as the core, institutional care as backup”.

Chris Field, President of the International Ombudsman Institute and Western Australian Ombudsman, provided an opening address to the XII Virtual Assembly and Seminar of the Institute of Latin American Ombudsman (ILO), Human Rights and Transition: The Ombudsmen and their contribution to the future, held on 2 December 2021. The Assembly and Seminar was dedicated to Berta Cáceres, a Lencar indigenous woman from Honduras and defender of the Lencar people, the protection of their territories and the environment.

Victorian Ombudsman findings on Department of Health border exemption scheme
The Victorian Ombudsman released her latest Investigation into decision-making under the Victorian Border Crossing Permit Directions. The report shows rather than fairly considering individual circumstances and risks, the exemptions scheme was a blunt instrument that resulted in unjust outcomes, potentially for thousands of people. Some found themselves effectively homeless and caught up in a bureaucratic nightmare. More than 300 complainants told their stories as part of the investigation.

Public Defender of Georgia Becomes Member of IOI Board of Directors
We are pleased to announce that on November 15, 2021, the Public Defender of Georgia, for the first time in the history of the Public Defender’s Office, has started fulfilling the duties of a member of the Board of Directors of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI). The Public Defender’s Office will represent the European region in the Board. The Office was elected a member of the European region in 2019. The Board of Directors oversees the organization's activities and makes decisions about its future activities.

Control Yuan passes draft amendments to Provision of Control Act
On 12 October 2021, the Control Yuan passed the Draft Amendments to the Control Act, adding a special section to Chapter 5-1, “Exercise of the Powers and Functions of the National Human Rights Commission,” by enacting a special law, sending it to the Legislative Yuan for consideration on the same day.
