Ombudsman tables Annual Report 2017
Victoria Pearman, Ombudsman for Bermuda, has submitted her Annual Report for 2017 to the Speaker of the House of Assembly in accordance with her statutory duty under the Ombudsman Act 2004. The Report was tabled in the House of Assembly on 22 June 2018 and is available to the public. The Report is structured around the Ombudsman's strategic aims which include: greater public access, greater public awareness, and championing best practice.

Ombudsman published first report on water billing and disconnection practices
In April 2018, the Office of the Ombudsman in the Kingdom of Tonga published its first report. Although the Office had been established in 2001 (formerly as the Office of the Commissioner for Public Relations), the respective Act did not allow for reports to be published. An amendment to the Act effective in December 2016 now allows for the Ombudsman to publish reports.

New ENNHRI Chair elected
The European Network for National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI) held its General Assembly Meeting and Annual Conference in Athens from the 24th to the 25th of October 2018. During these two days, representatives of NHRIs and Ombudsman Institutions attended this conference on “Ombudsman Institutions and other institutions under threat”.

Second Ombudsman appointed
On 17 December 2018 Ms Gwendoline E. Mossel took the oath of office before Parliament. Ms Mossel has officially assumed her post as the country’s second Ombudsman on 1 January 2019. She follows Dr. Rachnilda Arduin, who was honorably discharged on 31 December 2018.

Victorian Ombudsman tables report on poor communication and delay exacerbated distress of taxi licence holders
Taxi and hire car licence holders were given the “bureaucratic run-around” when seeking payments from the Fairness Fund set up by the state government to provide them prompt financial assistance, the Victorian Ombudsman has found. Tabling her Investigation into the administration of the Fairness Fund for taxi and hire car licence holders in the Victorian Parliament today, Ombudsman Deborah Glass said the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources had executed its management of the Fund poorly.

Investigations up for Victorian Ombudsman
In her annual report released today, 19 of September 2019, the Victorian Ombudsman said it was encouraging that of the 119 recommendations she made to state and local government over the 12-month period, 98 per cent were accepted.

Call for senior experts to support consultancy project
The Office of the Ombudsman of Malawi is looking for one senior expert to take on the consultancy in a project funded by the European Union, which aims at improving democratic governance via a more effective and responsive judiciary and improved accountability and oversight.
